"Kassandra" oil on canvas, 80cm x 210cm
„Kassandra“ is a project about the character of the same name from Greek mythology. A variety of different artistic techniques were used, which, like the texts used and the artists inspired by, come from different millennia. Inspiration was drawn from paintings by Albert Bierstadt, Evelyn De Morgan, William Turner, Richard Wilson, Rembrandt van Rijn, Aert van der Neer, Caspar David Friedrich, Leonardo Da Vinci, Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel, as well as from ancient greek artifacts and archeological sites. The underpainting of the painting shown here was painted digitally, then printed on canvas and afterwards thoroughly primed with clear gesso. Dozens of thin glazing layers were then painted over the underpainting before and after painting with un-thinned oil paints. To depict Kassandras visions as she experienced them living in all terrible moments of her life simultaneously - the composition had to distance itself from a traditional depiction of a real location.
